Last day of Cooperstown and blueberry picking

Well,
We finally won a game 5 to 4.  It was awesome!  It was the last game we played before John and I and the kids took off.  Here's how it went:

GAME TIME: 7:00 p.m.   Monday against the West Virginia b2bombers

SCORE:  8:00 p.m. 3 to 3......top of the 4th.

GAME DELAY:  8:05 p.m........raining so hard you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

DECISION:  9:00 p.m........game rescheduled until 8 tomorrow morning.

GILCHRIST PLAN:  We needed to leave 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

PROBLEM:  We would miss the ending of the first game that we were winning to get back to Northbrook

TELLING JOHNNY:  10:30 p.m. we met him at the barrack fence in the sheeting rain; his coached walked him to the gate with a rain poncho on, an umbrella in hand, in the dark, with a very sad little boy.  We gave him a hug and wished him luck for the game the next morning.

OUT OF A CLIP FROM A VERY SAD MOVIE:  Johnny and Coach Bob walked slowly back in the dark, in pouring rain, with Bob's hand around Johnny slumping shoulders as they headed toward the barracks.

OUTCOME:  Mom and Dad cried of a broken heart.

So...........the next morning, as we pulled out of town, I started to bawl, thinking of Johnny walking so sad in the rain that night.  John looked at me, turned the car around, stopped at a McDonalds, opened the trunk, put his coaching shirt and cap on, and we headed back to town just in time to make the start of the game.

JOHNNY HAD A HUGE SMILE ON HIS FACE WHEN WE ARRIVED.......AND WE WON!!

We left right after the game for Northbrook on a high note.

ALL ENDED WELL.

Last pictures I took during the winning game:

HOME SAFE AND SOUND.  JOHNNY WILL BE HOME FRIDAY.  THEY FINISHED 91 OUT OF 104 TEAMS.  BETTER THAN LAST PLACE.

HE'S CALLED ME TWICE TODAY.  I THINK HE IS READY TO COME HOME.

Glad you were able to stay! What a surprise for him. I was looking at your blueberry bushes and they are so much taller than ours we picked at the cabin.. We had to pick them off bushes 2 inches from the ground in the wild.
