we are back home.
SOOOOOOO glad to be back home.
Picked up dog, 3 fish we were hoping had died and fed Linus.
As you all heard it was a NIGHTMARE....
Probably ranked as one of the worst 11 days of my life. I'm still contemplating what I can take away from the experience. Maybe I will be more understanding of families at the hospital who are fighting in the rooms. We'll see.
I booked a room in NY on August 5th. The luxurious "La Quinta Inn"....159.00 for the night and free breakfast. Best I could do. It's 13 minutes from Carlos' Bakery from the TV show "The Cake Boss". The kids really want to go and try the cupcakes, cream horns etc... There is also a bus stop right across the street that takes you into Times Square in 15 minutes. I hope we are in a good neighborhood.....
Back to work again..and back to studying. I have to answer the question:
What is your theory on how globalization effects the world economy?
Have NO idea how to answer. Been googling all night. Still no answer. Think I will go to bed and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.
Joey is competing in an international poomsae tournament (form) in Palatine on Saturday.
Tournament: 12 hours long
Joey's form: 1 minute long
Joey's group form: 1 minute long
I will post pics next week
Next blog will be on the county fair all next week. I have to work of course. John's mom's death took up all my days off so I can't get time off for the pig show. Story of my life. I do get to go Monday to help with pig pen chores before the judging begins...oh hooray..
Happy birthday Shelly!!

Did you get your globalization question answered? It sounds like a Ms. America question.
Mike,
how is this for an answer?
I think that in order to know how to answer this, one of the things you have
to be educated on is the cultures of different countries. Dependency theory seems like
the best guess to me. This theory suggests that resources flow from the poor and
underdeveloped countries to the wealthy countries which in turn enriches the latter at the
expense of the former. The poor countries are dependent on how they are integrated
into the "world system."If you look at the U.S. we use many people from impoverished
countries to work at low wages so we can gain greater returns.
Another thought I had was that the way to look at this may be to examine the
impoverished cultures. Do they feel that they are not primitive and underdeveloped? Are
they ok with not integrating with wealthy countries due to the fear that their culture and
beliefs will be tainted? Do these "underdeveloped" countries want to have unique features
and structures of their own and take there own path of "development" by rejecting
technology etc.?
Maybe greed is what our society thrives on but not others. I hate the word dependency.
It reminds me of slavery and inequality. It seems though, that we do take advantage of
the underdeveloped world and so that is why I chose the dependency theory.
Wow... it seems I may have missed some of the readings. I was going to suggest something like:
Globalization affects the world economy by making it more vulnerable to local variables ... In other words, local concerns used to stay local... now they can affect other parts of the world. For example, if the Chinese used led paint to paint their toys, only Chinese kids would be harmed. With globalization, kids all over the world would be harmed. Similarly, if the European stock market takes a dive, so does ours. We're much more interdependent than we used to be.
I think your answer is probably more in line with what you all are reading about now.
One of the students used the word "interdependent" in his answer and got high praise from the professor. Your answer may be better then mine.
I guess in sociology, it doesn't really matter what you write, it's all about opinions.
