The wind is howling.  I know John will be up at 2 a.m. to shovel so he can keep up with it.  They're predicting 24".

SOME NEWS...IT'S BIG...ARE YOU READY?.....

Gotta keep things exciting around here... So here it goes....

John and I have decided to get licensed as foster parents.

I guess this all started when I was thinking I wanted to adopt a child from Africa.  John loved the idea of helping a child but the cost involved was impossible-estimated $25,000.00.  I had 2 people bring up to me how many kids in Chicago needed a safe place to live.  I told John about it thinking it was something God was laying on my heart.  John went for it and so we start the application process this week.  I am home now and am not under a lot of pressure to be at work all the time.  It seemed like good timing to us.  I talked to the Lutheran Social Services of Cook County today and she asked me a lot of questions.  John and I decided we would start out with only 1 child at a time and stay in the age range of 5-10 years old.  I didn't want to be up with an infant all night and I definitely didn't want to chase a toddler around all day.  The goal with foster children is to ultimately give them back to their biological family when the situation gets better as deemed by the courts.  If the parents sign their rights up, we have the choice of adoption.  This will give John and I an idea of how this will effect our family and we aren't tied to anything if it doesn't work out.  I am hoping for possibly adopting an African-American child, but am not clinging to it.  I know that it may be completely wrong for us.  So, we are just waiting on what God brings in our lives.  The social worker said it takes about 3 months for all the paper work to go through.  So, we are looking at around May to be assigned our first child.

That's our news for now.  I will keep you posted on the happenings.

Otherwise, I am researching vitamins for my boss.....

Bye for now!!

Woohoo! New nephews and nieces!! I know Jenny Gabbard grew up with foster siblings..talk to her..We were looking at foster care for a short while when I was losing the kids one by one.(growing up) I got a little nervous about the attitudes and problems the kids would be bringing into the house. With Dan gone half the month it would be up to me to deal with them. I also worried about any sexual abuse that may be brought into our family life.. There is a book out there that talks all about foster care from a family that devotes their life to it. You should read it. It made me a little nervous but they were great about welcoming each child with all their problems. I just wanted the ones that had lost both their parents in a car accident.. but you certainly don't get those kids.. lotsa issues. if thats what you can handle then I am excited for a new foster niece or nephew..!!!! You should talk to STeve silver maybe too...Good luck!.
