Sunday Bill Hybels came to Willow Creek's North Shore Campus and preached.
They had an alter call. Hannah wanted to go.
I walked her down in front of hundreds of people.
She was the only one.
She had already made the decision to follow Christ but had never made the decision publicly.
What a day! Bill prayed for her as well as another pastor.
After the sermon 100 people went to lake Michigan to be baptized.
Hannah wasn't ready for that she said...One thing at a time...
It was a good day..
The next best part of my week...
The first day of school! Yeah!!
I don't cry anymore...because let's be honest. I get tired of the fighting and I like to do my thing during the day and then listen to their day when I pick them up from school. For me it's the perfect balance. I love what they bring home from school, hearing about their friends, going to their shows...love it..
Here is a little video of that first day..Johnny and Joey refused to be a part of it.. (notice how I drop all of Holly's school supplies on the floor at the end of the video-typical 'Bridgette style')
Remember the man I told you about-Father Kamp-my favorite person in the world that I worked with?
Here is his picture:
He died Friday morning at the age of 91.
I found him in his apartment on the bathroom floor Tuesday afternoon. He had collapsed. I helped him into his bed, called 911 and then sat with him until the paramedics arrived. He smiled at me, his usual way of never letting anyone know he had anything wrong, and we talked, gave each other a sweet kiss and told each other "I love you" and they put him in the ambulance. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see him.
I will miss him tremendously.
I wonder a lot these days why I was the one who sat with him until he was taken from his home for the last time.
He told me once that his mother always said "The only thing that matters in this life is people." He lived up to that, always putting everyone's needs before his own. I never once saw that man with out a smile on his face. He was gentle, kind, loving and full of wisdom.
I think God knew that he would have been miserable having people take care of him. That wasn't Father Kamp's style. He left this world helping others right up until the very end, with a smile on his face, still serving people-even from his hospital bed.
I will be at the funeral this week. There will be thousands coming in from all over the world. Even the Pope himself is sending someone from Rome to do his funeral. He was the director of Catholic Missions, preparing priests for the mission field, for 65 years. He will leave a huge hole not only in Catholic Missions, but also in the world.
That makes me sad to write...so I am ending my post.
